One of the roads on Tortola damaged by heavy rainfall

Road repairs are expected to commence on several thoroughfares on Tortola during the week with Cane Garden Bay and Paraquita Bay topping the priority list.

According to an official in the Public Works Department inspections were done by engineers over the past few weeks to ascertain which roads will be fixed.

Heavy rainfall has been considered one of the factors for the deterioration of the roads on Tortola.

Also of grave concern to the Territory’s leader, Ralph T O’Neal are the rocks that come tumbling down from the hillsides unto the roads, which could be hazardous for motorists. In light of this, the Premier said he will recommend to Minister for Communications and Works Julian Fraser to appoint someone to monitor the situation.

“I looked at the cliffs going to West End and I have a suggestion to make to the Minister, that someone should be appointed to check these cliffs regularly, so that when you get a heavy downfall of rain and when there is lot of sunshine, they can see the cliffs breaking up and be able to use the excavators or heavy equipment to pull down some of the cliff that is breaking away.  So that when they do breakaway, no one would be sort of passing by or get hit by something,” the Premier said recent on a radio programme.

The “pavement that nobody walks on” now being built at Sea Cow Bay seems like another disastrous waste of money when so many roads and retaining walls need to be built. Whose idea was this??!! Must be the traffic light expert I suppose!!
