Tuesday, February 21 – The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force celebrates 45 years of policing in the Territory in 2012 and will highlight many of its achievements in a documentary to be aired on local TV stations during Police Week from February 26 to March 3.

The documentary will detail the milestones in the development of the RVIPF after it became a separate entity from the Leeward Islands Police Force in 1967. At the time, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla and the Virgin Islands were provided police service through the Leeward Islands Police Force with its headquarters in Antigua. Staff was at bare minimum however many of those gentlemen remained in the Virgin Islands on the Force even after the transition and now retired, will tell their stories in the documentary.

Other highlights planned for the week include presentations to three essay winners on their composition – “How can the RVIPF bridge the gap with today’s teenagers?” sponsored by the RVIPF and Harney’s law firm. The first place prize is $1,000. Essay winners will also appear on ZBVI’s Teen Talk on 10am on Saturday, March 3.

In addition, RVIPF along with Delta will make presentations to five model students from various primary schools around the Territory.

Maybe if they’d stop ‘celebrating’ and catch some criminals instead, things would look a whole lot better. They seem to spend their time with hours of in-house bickering; not only that, half of them jobs could be done by civilians. Put them police out to walk the beat instead of them all plain-clothes, trying to look important.
