FEBRUARY 20—Three shutouts highlighted the start of second round play in the BVI Football Association National League over the weekend

After playing to a 0-0 halftime draw, Wolues improved to 7-2 with a 2-0 victory over winless Haitian Stars, who fell to 0-10 on the season. James Shearman finally broke through the Haitian Stars’ defense in the 54th minute as Wolues took control of the game. Matt Moss added as second goal eight minutes later for the victory.

In matches that completed first round play, Colin Green had first and second half goals as One Love beat Lucian Stars, 2-0, two points out of a second place tie. Green connected just before halftime and added his last a minute before the end of regulation.

The Panthers and Ball Starz played to a 2-2 tie.  Stenneth Williams scored the first goal in the 41st minute for a 1-0 lead. Shannon Lawrence scored the second goal in the 52nd.
Jamie McCoy pulled Ball Starz within 2-1, in the 57 and Carlos Septus had the equalizer seven minutes later.
On Virgin Gorda, Sugar Boys blanked VG United 2-0 in the conclusion of their match that was called off because of a power outage. VG United contributed to their demise when Atiba Creese scored an own goal 44 minutes in.  Shaun Liburd connected in the 45th minute, as both teams played to a scoreless second half.

Before Sunday’s games, a women’s match was played as preparations for the upcoming women’s league begins in March. Kyra Ali scored the only goal for the Blue Team against their Green Team counterparts. A BVI team will face St. Thomas team on March 9 and March 11.
