Penn

The third phase of the sewerage project in the East End/Long Look area is to finish today (Wednesday).

Eighth District representative Marlon Penn told residents at a community meeting at the East End/Long Look Community Centre last evening that he received word on Tuesday from persons involved in the project that the third phase of the project, which includes the installation of pipes in the Parham Town/East End area, will be completed on Wednesday.

Penn told residents that sewerage has been a problem in the district for years and government is committed to fixing this problem.

“We all know that sewerage in the East End/Long Look community has been one of those vexing issues that the residents of the community have been dealing with,” he noted.

Penn said when the National Democratic Party was elected, it was decided that they could not linger with this project and that’s why it was initiated very quickly.

“The project was started in early April. And I just got word that we will finish phase three of the project, which includes the installation of pipes in the Pharham town/East End area by tomorrow, so that section of the project which we started, will be completed tomorrow. And we are moving along to the installation of additional pipes in the James Young/Major Bay area with a view to move on to install the pumping station at Pharham Town, James Young and in Greenland proper; and to install the main line running from Chapel Hill going towards Paraquita Bay where the treatment plant will then be installed and then we will be able to eventually flush once that treatment plant has been installed,” Penn said.

The Eighth District representative said the government is committed to this project and it will be following through to have the problem in the East End/Long Look area addressed.
