There are indications of a major shake-up in the top leadership of the Tourist Board which was established to foster, develop and promote a sustainable tourism sector for the territory.
The current director of tourism Hadassah Ward may be on her way out following the surprise exit of human resource manager Jenifer David.
The Tourist Board has not publicly cleared the air on the matter, but it has posted advertisements in the local press seeking persons to fill both posts.
BVI News has been trying to ascertain details regarding the matter, but no pertinent information has been coming from the board since last week.
When checks were made today (September 13), we were informed that the tourism director was on maternity leave and acting director Malcia Smith-Hamilton was on compassionate leave following the reported death of her mother.
It is said that Chairman of the Tourist Board Russell Harrigan will soon make a public statement on the matter.
Already, it is known that David is no longer working at the board where she served as human resource manager. It is not clear if she resigned or was fired.

I am carefully monitoring what is taking place at the Tourist Board as I have every intention of blowing the whistle if these fat cats once again attempt to use their positions to hold investors to ransome for favours granted. These leaches must understand, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!
its not the staff after all there is chairman and director and hOD…its the past government policies which is why the board isnt functioning the way its suppose to….u speak about empty hotel rooms yet no ones wants to get a larger airport to get the visitors to come and fill up the room….This is just one of the issue which plagues….it come hand in hand…the tourist has been neglected for the past 4 years, its only now that something is being implemented.
Tourist Board have too many staff that are overpaid and unproductive. The empty hotel rooms, low tourist arrivals and poor marketing strategies are some of the evidence. Until we begin to get rid of the useless staff the country will continue to lag behind in this critical industry. We cannot just continue to remove the director who is possibly the problem and not the staff who is a symptom of the problem.
Perhaps we could put the staff to work at Prospect Reef training young people for JOBS, or put them at the empty Culinary Institute training young people for JOBS, or just sack them and give young people JOBS!
The sad thing is some of them need training too as they lack qualifications!
This is the same problem at the Hospital with the Director without any proper experience etc!
Same thing at the Hospital in Ghetto Divaland.
With all that is going on, I would not be surprised if civil servants have to wait for a week or two to receive their mid mth. salary.
I am more than concerned over the way our beloved Government is sending these large deligations to the far reaches of the world. Just a week or two ago five went on a tour of Europe and the middle East to inspect Airports. This week another team of four is in SRI LANKA in the Indian ocean seeking knowledge and in a week’s time another team will be off to Monico in Europe attending a boat show. In most instances travel is first class and accommodation is five star hotel. Please!! just who is keeping watch. Rest assured, it is not the Minister of Finance.
i thought the NDP would of run through this place already. Lots of bags must already be packed, waiting for the axe to fall.
millions of dollars later as the cookie jar is empty they decide to shake it up
three weeks ago i witness 2 ferry loads of tourists go to St John – and all going on the verry late ferry to BVI is us BVI shoppers
Thank you tourist Board! – Did you enjoy the free ride? You done YOUR nation good!
