Thursday’s opening night of the 40th BVI Spring Regatta at Nanny Cay was a strong start for raising support for the young sailors of the BVI.

Sol Petroleum is hosting members of the Royal BVI Yacht Club (RBVIYC) and their junior sailors at the Sol tent where raffle tickets are on sale to support the Club’s youth sailing programme. Sol is also adding great rewards with a daily, lucky dip for all boaters and visitors at the Village.

“There are hundreds of visitors to the Village who are not sailors but who still would like to support the young sailors which they can do by purchasing a raffle ticket,” said Deborah Benjamin, country manager for Sol.

“We also believe that the Spring Regatta is now bigger than racing and is a true community event attracting a good cross-section of the public. Sol wants to add to the fun side by giving away some great, practical gifts.”

Visitors to the Sol tent this weekend can enter the free, lucky dip for a chance to win one of five, nightly prizes including a sports bag or lunch box gift pack, a case of motor oil and fuel vouchers.

As part of its long term commitment to progress the junior sailing programme run by the RBVIYC, Sol, in conjunction with Nanny Cay Marina, is making a donation to the organization from every gallon of Sol fuel sold at the Nanny Cay fuel dock.

“This week of sailing and boating should be a boost in the collection we make from fuel sales,” said Miles Sutherland- Pilch, general manager for Nanny Cay Resort and Marina. “We are at capacity and we still have boats coming in to meet and pick up friends so we want to encourage them to make sure they top up at the fuel dock before they head off.”

Sol is the largest petroleum company in the BVI with service stations in Tortola and Virgin Gorda. Sol supplies the marine community at Hodges Creek, Nanny Cay Marina, the Moorings, Village Cay, Bitter End, Biras Creek, Peter Island, Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour and Leverick Bay.

Sol is a committed supporter of community initiatives including the BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival, the Leverick Bay Poker Run, the Green VI Glass Studio and is a partner of the BVI Athletics Association.
