Sol Petroleum will host the Royal BVI Yacht Club (RBVIYC), the founding organisation and shareholder of the BVI Spring Regatta, during the 40th annual BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival.

Additionally, Sol has donated one of the two grand prizes for the traditional, junior sailors fund-raising raffle.

The winner of the Sol prize will enjoy a skippered charter on a Moorings 40 (3 cabins / 2 heads) for six days and five nights.

The RBVIYC will be represented at the Sol tent at the Regatta Village, Nanny Cay from March 31 – April 3.

“The BVI Spring Regatta is the perfect forum for us to go the extra mile and try to assist in raising membership for the RBVIYC and the much needed funds to sustain its junior sailing programme,” said Deborah Benjamin, country manager for Sol. “This initiative, like our support of the BVI Athletics Association, is integral to Sol’s mandate to be involved with the growth of community-wide programmes that encourage the continued development of our society.”

The RBVIYC raffle is one of the biggest revenue producers for the junior sailing programme. This year, the RBVIYC committee agreed to have two major prizes that would appeal to the international visitors as well as to the resident community.

The other prize is a week’s stay for two people at the Bitter End Yacht Club valued at $6,000. Tickets are $20 each and will be on sale at the Nanny Cay Chandlery and at the Bitter End Yacht Club in the run up to the opening of the Village. Tickets will also be on sale at the Sol tent at the Village from Thursday, March 31.

As well as selling raffle tickets, the RBVIYC will be signing up resident and international individuals and families for membership of the sailing club.

“The RBVIYC Membership fees are remarkably low, particularly when compared to other Caribbean and Royal yacht clubs,” said Guy Phoenix, captain of sailing, RBVIYC. “Members enjoy numerous benefits, including substantial discounts for sailing events and with many BVI businesses. We also have reciprocal arrangements with many prestigious yacht clubs around the world.”

Earlier this year, Sol teamed up with Nanny Cay Resort and Marina to facilitate the collection of a donation from boaters fueling up at the Nanny Cay marina fuel dock. Funds raised from every gallon of Sol fuel sold are given to the RBVIYC youth sailing programme.

The youth sailing programme runs on Saturday mornings from 9.30 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. The aim is to encourage more beginners and new-starters to join, whilst also providing development for intermediate and advanced sailors.
