Police on St. Thomas were notified of the stabbing death of a 64 year-old female and 12 hours later, 22-year-old Kareem Mulraine was arrested and charged with the murder.
The victim, Ernestine Carty, lived in Estate Hidden Valley in the Tutu High Rise apartments. The suspect also lives in the same housing complex.
Police were notified on Wednesday, April 25 at about 2:45 a.m. of an unresponsive female in an apartment. According to the preliminary police report the victim was motionless on the floor of her apartment with multiple stab wounds about her body. Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene could not detect any vital signs.
Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives, members of the Intelligence Unit and Zone C officers conducted an investigation and canvassed the neighborhood. Forensic technicians processed the scene.
Based on the results of the investigation police requested an arrest warrant from the VI Superior Court.
Kareem Mulraine was arrested at about 2:30 p.m. and charged with Murder First Degree and Use of a Dangerous Weapon During the Commission of a Crime of Violence. His bail was set at $250,000 and he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
St. Thomas/St. John Deputy Police Chief Dwayne DeGraff thanked the community and the officers who were instrumental in the swift arrest of the murder suspect. He said, “When the community comes forward and tells what they know, suspects can be arrested swiftly. Any murder is a tragedy; however a quick arrest is the best conclusion for the family and the community.”

Let us pray for our Young people. Oh my Lord what is happenning to the young ones. Father we come to you and petition on behalf of our young people. We torpedo the plans of the “Evil One” who comes to steal, kill and destroy our young people in the Name of Jesus!
I hope he learns to “throw back battie” in Prison. He will then know the true meaning of “Carnival.”

You sound so effing stupid. You could have at least give condolences to the family of the deceased, but no.. you come on here with your crap. You are a real fetching fool, buddy!
St. Thomas police dont waste time and if he didnt cooporate you would of hear bout he death.
Hey, but what is happen with these young generation?
What a tragedy & a cowardly act. What this poor woman did to deserve such a fate? Was this guy mentally stable? Unfortunately, no motive for this crime could be deduced from the article; however, I would say this: it’s beyond tragic to have lived your life for 64 years only to have it end in this brutal manner by a 22 year old for whatever reason. Glad to know the perpetrator was caught and he will be held to account for his action. Given this crime occurred in the U.S.V.I, one can safely assume that if he is convicted, he will become a life-timer.
I’m going to make a general statement about some of these young men running around today that is not related to this case, and is not an indictment of all young men/people as I and countless other men were once young and we never had the mindset I am about to speak of.
There are many disrespectful and angry young men walking around for whatever reason. Too many are disrespectful to our elders, and they would think nothing of it to curse at an elderly person in the most fowl language or even physically abuse them if the opportunity presents itself. As such, it is prudent that older folks continue to exercise good judgment in dealing with anyone as the get older, especially younger & stronger people who may be prone to anger and violence. I don’t know the deceased, but may she RIP if that is possible under the circumstances of her ill-fated death.
While we do not know the circumstances that led up to this tragedy, I’m relatively certain that this 22 year was not some choir boy and probably had a history of mental illness or anti-social behavior in the past, as no sane, appropriately behaving, 22 year old suddenly wakes up one day and stab a 64 year woman to death. There is a history here that we are obviously missing. Bottom line older folks: Be careful; continue to watch your backs, and don’t let your guard down because you may be older.
Buh is why u does come on the news website them to write a set a story like ppl really care wa u say
! n!cc@ get a life.. SMH!
LOL. You are a perfect example of what I just spoke of. No respect for the elderly. Have manners cat behavior. You cared enough about what I wrote to read it and respond. Rather than shaking your head like a mo mo, keep reading. You might learn a few things. I can teach you a few things if you care to learn.
There you go again twice in one day. Today, must be my lucky day
I think this website is set up for whoever is respectful and and have an opinion. Why are you so disrespectful of ray. If you listen to him you might learn something in that dense brain you have. I dont care if you mad at me the truth hurts.
He’s a little bitch for stabbing an old lady. They need to hang him in a popular area in town.
They don’t hang in the USA, they use electric chair or the needle and that’s too nice for some of the cruel way they kill these people.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ayo well know ha good
Nice shirt buddy
He sure look like a murderer. This senseless violence got to really stop in these islands man. Job well done to the Police dept in St Thomas for catchin him so soon yall need to come over to Tola help the RVIPF cus they lettin em run way all the time!!
true true true always.. a gald you know these tola police is ;p…
While much gratutide is given to the STT Police, note that even the Police Chief said “When the community comes forward and tells what they know, suspects can be arrested swiftly…” The police can not do it alone!
agreed
Hmm you ain goin say tola ppl need to be more willing to give information too right?
YES!!!!
@ Yamz… I agree whole heartdly but people that don’t have faith and trust in the police will not put themselves out there and be volunerable…one hand can’t clap some of the police talking when ppl come forward cus they too are in cahoots with the criminal elements around the place
I agree with you. If they keep their mouth shut and do their thing more people will come forward. tola is a small place and everyone knows everyone so if they see something and they give the police a hint they dont keep it anaymous they brawl it out and then your life is at risk.
