Traffic Investigation Bureau officers on St. Thomas are investigating an auto accident that left two pedestrians dead and another in critical condition.
At about 5 a.m. Sunday, January 22 a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Karen J. Williams struck three females who were exercising on the Weymoth Rymer Highway killing 17-year-old Aliya Robles and 18-year-old Jolcia Wilson and critically injuring another 18-year-old female. Police charged Williams with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Negligent Homicide.
Police said the three females were walking westward in the area just past the Donoe Road intersection. Williams, who was driving a beige Honda Accord, was on the same road travelling east when she lost control of the vehicle, which left the road and veered up onto the sidewalk, striking the three pedestrians. The vehicle then hit a stop sign, spun around and collided into a WAPA utility pole, where it came to rest.
Police said they detected a strong odor of alcohol on Williams and administered the Field Sobriety and Breathalyzer tests. She was arrested at 6:30 a.m. the same day. Her bail was set at $10,000 and she was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending her advice of rights hearing.

this is soo sad and some of u older pple have the worst to say..i am only 19 and i play football and i dont weigh more than 105 and i still go jogging in the morning,its not being out,its keep our mind from straying in the wrong direction and keep us FIT AND HEALTHY..u shud b more caring and giv what ull like to have…that woman will b fine,GOD IS WATCHING US ALL…(bless those three girls heart) pple deink man n woman even kids if they get the chance n we all do *foolishness*

One of those young girls was my niece, only 18 – at the beginning of her life and this woman decides to drink and then get behind the wheel. She only needs 10% of bail to get out, and do it again while she is awaiting trial. Negligible homicide is not enough – she should be charge with Depraved Indifference to Life, convicted and thrown Under the jail.

This is very sad..I’m a guy and I hate to see a woman drunk like that. Matter of fact, nobody should be getting drunk because ppl are not themselves once this happens. You never know what you may or may not do and then end up regretting it. Ppl may not realize this because of different beliefs but the devil is out. I pray that we here in the Virgin Islands see the consequences of our actions before it actually happens so we can avoid doing stuff….On a different note..this woman look Messed completely up!

Last I checked you are still free to be outside.Second,lets say for argument sake they were intoxicated,how could they have contributed to the crash,they were on the public sidewalk walking,not driving a car. Would it have made you feel better if they were on their way to school,thyen would it be ok to be outside. Your ignorance is almost comical. This is a sad and tragic event to read about. I understand people’s anger towards this woman but I think it is unfair to wish her dead in return. We do not know anything about this woman. She made a deadly mistake but you are commenting like she did this on purpose. I have to believe that she is very guilt stricken and probably wishes she too had died in the accident. She probably would give her life in return for the lives of the two innocent girls that lost their lives because of her poor decision to drink and drive.
If no one has notices, drinking and driving is common place here in Tortola. People regularly get behind the wheel after having too much to drink. Our clubs are allowed to remain open until whenever they choose, all the while feeding alcohol to the patrons who are never cut off despite how intoxicated they are. In many countries the owners of establishments with liquor licenses (and homeowners hosting a party) can be held responsible for accidents resulting from drunk patrons getting behind their wheels after drinking in their bars. It is their responsibility to serve alcohol responsibly. Yet clubs in Tortola are still serving drinks when the sun rises. I would hazard to guess that the majority of the patrons getting behind the wheel of their cars in the wee morning hours are far from being sober. Is this not the pot calling the kettle black?
May I remind you also that this weekend we buried someone who died as a result of a car accident. No one commented that the driver of the other vehicle should die. Each time a driver speeds, passes on blind corners, overtakes cars in rainy conditions, drives an unsafe vehicle or breaks any driving rules they are knowingly placing others at risk. Even though they may make it to their destination without killing anyone, they could have. They are just as bad as this woman who drove drunk. So think on that as you decide to overtake the 3 cars in front of you with a blind corner coming up.

This woman made a horrible decision to drink and drive and that decision has ended in tragedy. But cast no stone as there are many drunken drivers on the streets of Tortola each and every day…and the majority of them are MEN!

Two (2) unfortunate victims killed, and a third in critical condition, yet the bail for this irresponsible woman who was reportedly drunk was $10 Gran?! Something is wrong with that picture.
The judge needs to have his/her head examined. $10 Gran bail is nothing for this drunk who could be out on the streets again in short time only to run over other innocent victims.

As the Aunt of one of those young ladies I can honestly tell you that if wishing bad come to some who has done wrong worked,there would not be enough holes in the ground to put them. Her death would not change the circumstances nor the results so it would be all for nothing. What I hope and pray,like everyone else who has endured a sensless tragedy,is that people will open their eyes and begin to make better choices,because to often their one choice made without thought or reasoning can have a ripple effect on innocent people.
