Although police recently announced a $10,000 reward for his capture, there is still no trace of suspected murderer Alberto Rosa De La Rosa, also known as Piyoyo.
He is being sought in relation to the murder of his compatriot Riky Dennis Bautista Familia who is a native of the Dominican Republic.
Bautista was fatally stabbed during an incident at Maria’s Bar (also known as Jazmin Bar) in Sea Cow’s Bay on Friday, November 16.
Rosa De La Rosa, 32, is of Hispanic appearance and has what police described as brown skin. He is about 5’8” tall, of slim build and weighs about 140 lbs.
During the Sea Cows Bay incident, it is believed that he also lost a tooth.
Persons with information should contact detectives from the Major Crime Team on (284) 468 2718 or speak to any police offices. Spanish-speaking Detectives are also available.
In a statement on December 18, the Police Information Office said all information will be treated in complete confidence. It further stated that all reward payment amounts will be decided by the Commissioner of Police.
Head of the Crime Division Acting Superintendent Alexis Charles has sought to explain the monetary offer. “The reason we are offering a reward of $10,000 and not a higher amount is that we have a known suspect in this case. We merely need to know where Rosa De La Rosa is. The reward is payable to people overseas as well as within the BVI. We are working with all our regional law enforcement partners and Interpol.”
“I appeal to Rosa De La Rosa to give himself up. The alternative is a life on the run, always looking over your shoulder, waiting to be arrested. If you have an explanation of what happened that night then please step forward and give it. I would also appeal to Rosa De La Rosa’s family and friends to encourage him to come forward,” the Acting Superintendent further said.
According to him, the investigation is at an advanced stage and the response from the community has been good. “We have secured a lot of evidence. A file of evidence is with the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
Making further reference to Rosa De La Rosa, the senior officer continued: “His current whereabouts are unclear. It has been suggested that he is still in the territory. However, we have had information that he may have fled Tortola soon after the incident.”
