Police on St. Thomas captured a Tortola man who robbed a main street jewelry store less than an hour before.
The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Jemoy Gordon who lives in Estate Nadir.
The hand gun used by the suspect was confiscated as well as more than $200,000.00 in stolen jewelry. Officers said community cooperation was the key in the swift apprehension of the suspect.
Detectives said Gordon has been on St. Thomas about three months. Detectives said Gordon is originally from Tortola and they believe he has prior contact with the law in that jurisdiction. VIPD detectives have contacted Tortola police to determine if Gordon has outstanding warrants.
Police were advised of a robbery in progress by 911 Emergency Communications at about 11:45 a.m., Wednesday, October 26. Officers traveled to the scene, and based on information gathered from the community, main street businesses and security personnel, officers were able to locate Gordon on Back Street and apprehend him. At the time of his apprehension, Gordon was in possession of a handgun and a bag containing more than $200,000 in jewelry.
Chief of Detectives Lt. Milton Peterson said, “This swift arrest is an excellent example of police and the community working together toward a quick and successful resolution to a problem.”
Gordon was arrested and charged with First Degree Robbery.
His bail was set at $75,000 and he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.

RVIPF READ BELOW AND LEARN SOMETHING NEW

You are EXACTLY right – so, what is it? Why did the police show up so quickly? (That is sarcasm but I cannot locate that font on my keyboard).
I believe the reason the USVI Police officers showed up so quickly and apprehended a person with a gun, might be due to the fact that the officers ALSO have guns!?!?!
Why do we expect our BVI Officers to show up and apprehend a suspect that has a weapon? Lots of talk over the internet BUT – who here would, as a police officer, walk into a situation where you know there is a gun – and you don’t have one??
I Know everyone is going to say our Officers can’t be trusted with guns, they’ll turn the island into the wild west. I say BS – If they can train their officers in the USVI – we CAN and SHOULD do the same
