Wednesday, December 12 – Police have released the name of the  driver who died in a two-vehicle crash near the West End Police Station in Tortola late yesterday afternoon.

Dead is Rafael Bernardino Richardson, 51, a native of the Dominican Republic who resided in West End.

A statement from the Police Information Service said officers who went to the scene of the crash observed a Kia motorcar facing west, and a Pathfinder jeep  facing Road Town.

Richardson was seen trapped behind the driver’s wheel of the Kia motorcar. Police said he was motionless.

He was extricated from the vehicle by Fire and Rescue Officers and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the jeep and a female passenger were taken to Peebles Hospital and later released.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.

The Police Information Office has not disclosed the circumstances under which the crash unfolded, pending further investigations.

However, BVI News has been informed that  the two vehicles were heading into opposite directions at the time of the accident. The motorcar reportedly got out of control and slammed head-on into the jeep.

The West End crash yesterday brings to two, the number of fatal accidents to be recorded on the island of Tortola since the start of the month.

Shortly after mid-night last Wednesday (December 5) 29 year-old Akeem Moses of Brandywine Bay died in a two-vehicle crash along Walter Francis Drive, also in Tortola.

Police investigations suggest that both unaccompanied drivers were travelling along the west-bound lane of the dual carriageway in opposite directions.

Upon arriving in the area adjacent to the entrance of the Festival Grounds, the two vehicles collided.

Fire and Rescue Officers assisted in extricating Moses from his motor car.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged

The accident transpired while the Public Works Department was carrying out road maintenance on the east-bound lane of Walter Francis Drive.

We miss you so much tio felio ;-( ;-( …..todavía me duele saber que te has ido :-( …. all the memory we have of you will warm our hearts. Thanks to those who give us condolence. As I was reading through the comments some are nice and comforting but some are from persons who spoke without a caring heart but we will be strong because the Lord is our strength and salvation. God I ask that you be with my mom this is hard for her but I know that you will comfort her. God told us to have faith. God I thank you for being here for us now as we mourn. I know that everything will be okay because you said in Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. R.I.P mi Tio Felio I miss you.

There are many variables in Tortola. Speed, driving while intoxicated. Then there is the must dangerous thing one can do in Tortola is passing the vehicle infront of you in a curve. Thee are no marked road or division/patition road are to narrow for the maneuvers most drivers do.

While driving there last Feb a driver almost ended the life of me and my entire family – the extent of the accident were so bad that both cars were totaled. By the grace of god we were able to walkaway with our lives. Yes, the guy slammed unto our vehicle we didn;t even had a chance to react to it. Since that date I keep seen many more bad accidents are anyone taking note on this issue. It could be you or a love one next.

Jesus is coming soon !However, he comes everyday when we lost a love one, so we have to understand that Jesus comes everyday and will make his apparence in the future. Let us live everyday like we will not see the next day, so if we die we will live and reign with him forever for there is hope and there is a hell to shun. condolences to all who lost love ones, and may we keep in mind we are like a flower! Bloom in the AM die in the PM. be comforted peace

My condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. I pray that the Lord will comfort you in your time of bereavement.

It is sad that death has struck again and some are crying, some are commenting and then time passes and we forget that today is what we have and tomorrow is not a promise. Some say the world is ending, some are fearful, while others are ignorant or even arrogant. Jesus Christ has taken the sting out of death and has made a way for eternal life through himself. Jesus came to seek and save us from sin, death, hell and the grave (separation from him). He is calling, does he have to shout or will we just wait for another wake up call one life here, another there, maybe an earthquake, a catastrophic storm where many perish. What does it take when he has already paid the price for us. Who’s next? Are you ready? Will you answer his call?

How you gonna attract tourists when the roads are not safe. You need to place speed cameras all over the territory and levy very heavy fines for speeding, but first you must fix the roads and put up proper signage.

What he is trying to say is that these things that are happening are happening one behind the other. These accidents and other happenings are signs that the world is in turmoil, we don’t have much time. We need to prepare ourselves. You should take what he said and run with it.

@Peaches, get some therapy my dear! There have been 2 tragic accidents, accidents have been occuring for thousands of years, car accidents since the invention of the motor car, there is no sinister plot, the world is still turning, its a normal day. Sadly 1 man is dead due to this accident and 2 others in hospital but as they say that is life!

just as in the days of Noah so shall it be today. Read between the lines my dear there is something happening in the B V I . My suggestion to you is that if you are not born again you better get on board the next one who knows might be some one close to you. Not you Cause I pray that you will not perish but you will come to the knowledge of the Gospel.
