BBC – Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez has died, his vice-president has announced.
Mr Chavez had not appeared in public since he returned to Venezuela last month after cancer treatment in Cuba.
An emotional Nicolas Maduro made the announcement on Tuesday evening, flanked by leading Venezuelan political and military leaders.
Earlier, he said the 58-year-old Venezuelan leader had a new, severe respiratory infection and had entered “his most difficult hours”.
He also announced the government had expelled two US diplomats from the country for spying on Venezuela’s military.
Mr Maduro said Mr Chavez had died “after battling a tough illness for nearly two years”.
He said he had no doubt that Mr Chavez’s cancer, first diagnosed in 2011, had been induced by foul play by Venezuela’s enemies.
Venezuelan radio reported that military had been deployed across the country.
Under the constitution, the head of Venezuela’s Congress, Diosdado Cabello, will assume the interim presidency before an election is held.
Cuba surgery
One of the most visible, vocal and controversial leaders in Latin America, Hugo Chavez won the presidency in 1998 and had most recently won another six-year presidential term in October 2012.
Last May, the former army paratrooper said he had recovered from an unspecified cancer, after undergoing surgery and chemotherapy in 2011 and a further operation in February 2012.
However, in December 2012, he announced he needed further cancer surgery in Cuba, and named his Vice-President, Nicolas Maduro, as his preferred successor should the need arise.
Mr Chavez remained out of public view, finally returning to Venezuela in February.

Why is it that when any leader in the Third World attempts to help the poor and downtrodden in his/her country they become targets for political, character and physical assassination by the C.I.A. and agents of the Imperialist U.S.A.?

You know it is really amazing that this man asked for his country’s gold to be repartriated back to his country and then in the same instance he was diagnosed with cancer(In 2011). If you look at the countries America calls the axis of evil, all their leaders except 1 has been eliminated. Iraq(Saddam), Libya( Ghadaffi), North Korea(Kim John Un). Only Iran(Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) remains. Funny thing is it was the Liar G.W Bush who called these countries axis of evil because they were the only countries to have their own central bank and would not go along with the PONZI scheme America is now forcing upon every nation to bring them under debt. These countries were a threat to the Petro dollar(U.S.dollar). All these countries had their own oil and gold. We never heard of what happened the oil or gold from Iraq or Libya, but we know these places are worse off than before they were invaded. America is the real wolf in sheep clothing going around terrorizing everyone and calling people who don’t dress in 3 piece suits, terrorists. These lies and fear tactics are only there to brainwash those who are too busy caught up with the latest gadgets and entertainment such as movies etc. The real terrorist is the ones with the guns and bombs. And all these wars and no weapons of mass destruction still have not been found. The real weapon of mass destruction is that FIAT currency the U.S dollar that so many people has died from and still are dying from today. And I can guarantee that many more(sad to say), will die when this FIAT dollar looses its place as the world reserve currency. Hugo did his part for his time, but America’s media now controlled by only 6 companies, stack lies upon lies every single second, feeding it to the public as truth!
