The Virgin Islands has talented performers in almost all of the genres even opera, and last night as local talent took centre stage many marvelled at vocal treasure that has been somewhat buried.

The vast display was part of the VI Showcase that made up the lineup at Friday night’s Music Fest.

Well Known artistes such as Bumpy, NJAR and Aaron had the hip hop fans riled up in delight as they did their thing. It was quite interesting to note that one of Aaron’s songs that spoke of a surprise in his car trunk had a resemblance to a Rick Ross Tune, but this great track was all Aaron’s and fans couldn’t help but to say how good it was.

The reggae fire blazed hot with Heritage, Shine-I and Macabee. Presentation was very big in Macabee’s performance as he came out dressed in an African suit while his backup singers were garbed in matching printed dresses. His performance was however, interrupted when one of his singers fell owing to a mentioned ankle injury. Shine-I showed versatility and did a merge between reggae and dancehall. He also demonstrated his new dance which fans seemed to love. Heritage had the ladies swooning as he sang a romantic song about a relationship on the verge of ending.

Kirk Adams with his silky voice began the medley of local R&B singers, and persons who couldn’t get enough of his voice were able to get an encore when he graced the stage to do a duet with another artiste. Artiste Joseph George who most persons state they had never heard of gained a large fan base that night with not only his great music, but his rather impressive performance, which of course included microphone tricks and great crowd interaction.

Star Struck a new music promotion company that includes artistes BMore, Lincoln Ward and Mullah Gwop was very entertaining by putting on a show within a show. The guys came out with professional looking dancers, and had a little serenading for a lucky lady. While the crowd cheered as they sang their hits, such as Mullah’s I wish. The most entertaining was the homage to DTM Boys, a group Mullah was part of. Not only did the crowd join in singing some DTM hits but it was interesting to hear a group of tourist sing the song Ragga word for word. BMore surprised fans who were used to his R&B flavours with some reggae which was well received and greatly enjoyed. Some fans also demonstrated that they missed seeing Lincoln on stage and he did acknowledge his absence by saying “It’s been a while.”

Martino Mark most commonly known as Tino brought the soca early with his hits holiday and Rock and Hard Place and well done soca tributes that included Kes’ Wotliss.

Out Da Box a VI group came out and performed exceptionally well. The three guys surprised the Crowd by bringing Iyaz on stage. It was stated that Iyaz’s first hit was done with the group.

However, the grand surprise of the night came from Bandero Huggins or Gerard Huggins as he is mostly known. The crowd was mesmerize as he sang a German opera piece and “Old Man River” from Showboat.

All of the local singers did a total of three songs during their performance.

The VI Showcase was followed by Xtreme band’s performance and later a soca frenzy featuring Fireman Hooper and Tizzy.

Iyaz made a surprise appearance.
