The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) is manufacturing lies by claiming that the National Democratic Party (NDP) intends to lay off civil servants to save money, phase out cruise tourism and left the county in a financial hole.
This was the sentiment expressed by the NDP’s 4th District candidate Mark Vanterpool.
In an emotional delivery at an NDP rally for fellow candidate Claude Skelton Cline last night Vanterpool said he was tired of hearing the VIP continue to preach false doctrine against the NDP quoting false numbers and misrepresenting the facts.
Vanterpool said the VIP is merely trying to cover its own misappropriation of the almost $300 million it collected over the past fiscal year. “Stop telling lies. You talk about illegal, you better talk about what you doing now. We will make sure you tell the truth,” Vanterpool said.
He suggested that the VIP should provide the “right numbers” and the “tell the truth” while they are at it. “You didn’t spend the money right. You spend the money building a big wall down in Sea Cows Bay… tell the people that… I’m tired of hearing them now. Tell the truth,” the former VIP member said.
Further, Vanterpool said no one in the NDP has ever mentioned in private or publicly made any statements to suggest that it has any intention, or will ever entertain such thoughts, that will see the reduction of the civil service as a mandate for revenue retention.
He said the NDP instead considers the civil service to be an integral part of the development and forward movement of the BVI and intends to keep in strong and intact.
