‘Voices’, a new community group on Virgin Gorda, will officially launch today with a membership drive at the new Ports Authority parking lot across from Dixies Restaurant.
The event will begin at 12 noon until 6 pm.
The group, in keeping with its goals, will beautify the area by planting trees and flowering plants in the planters.
“We are a group of men and women from Virgin Gorda, who’s primary purpose is community betterment. As members we all have one common bond, a love for our island and the desire to grow it’s pride… by trying to find sane, long-term and inspiring solutions for our recognized ‘problem issues,” the group said in a statement to the press.
The goal of the initiative is to inspire youths to grow into vibrant citizens and preserve and enhance the island’s pristine beauty while synchronizing with the 21st century advancements, to cultivate community unity, and cultural awareness. “We want to elevate our people’s voice, create better communication forums and ultimately organize and carry out projects designed to achieve these goals,” the group said.
The group says it wants to “seed, fertilize and ultimately harvest an island  image like no other in the quality of it’s community involvement and spirit. We are not allied with any particular political party, religious organization, one denomination or sect, we do not want to engage in controversy, neither endorse or oppose any causes”.
According to the statement, ‘Voices’ is focused on elevating the quality of life of the people “so they can live a safe, vibrant, educated, and happy life. To this end we will elect a steering committee (rotating every 2 years), have a democratic format, meet regularly to discuss, plan and carry out community projects for the betterment of Virgin Gorda Pride”.
