The Baugher’s Bay plant that supplies 75 percent of the water that runs through the taps of BVI homes is expected to be up and running fully today.
BVI News contacted Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Julian Fraser who said that technicians and engineers are currently looking at the situation at the plant.
“We are working on it,” Minister Fraser said in a brief telephone interview.
On Monday afternoon the General Manager of the Ocean Conversion (OC) Billy Leverett handed over the keys to Julian Willock, permanent secretary within the Ministry the Communications and Works as OC officially handed over the operations to Government.
According to Meade Malone, one of OC’s directors, the Baugher’s Bay plant is in dire need of repairs and if any of the pumps is to stop working it would be months before the necessary tools would arrive to fix the problem.
He informed reporters on Monday afternoon that after more than six months of operating the Government plant it would have been irresponsible of OC to continue to operate the plant in its current condition.
“We believe that it poses potential considerable harm to the BVI economy if the plant goes down because of the lengthy time it would take to obtain the component parts for the plant. We have done all that we possibly could as a company and as BVIslanders to this point to try and make sure that we act responsibly in operating the plant to benefit the people. We have done so when we have been paid less than the cost to operate the Baugher’s Bay facility,” the director explained

I also hope that some of you all listened to the Cromwell’s talk show tonite where he highlighted pertinent facts from the “Contract”. If you did i am pretty sure you all will be talking a totally different talk.

I tired of this bucket thing today…it is almost 5pm. Get this water on!
I am smelling. I simply want to have a shower. I don’t care who makes that happen. Just get a proper supply of water running through my pipes. This is absolute MADNESS. I am certain that none of these greedy shareholders and Government bullies do not depend solely on the Government supply of water to their homes so they really don’t care about the ‘little’ man and his family. May God be with all of us in these cursed Virgin Islands.
I am sick to my stomach with this situation…
Ok let me play hard ball with OC so I can put in Aqua Design. Look it worked!
they couldn’t afford to repair it but they built a new one@ barbay….who fooling who ??
Please remember the baugher’s bay plant was never OC own. It was always owned by the government with the agreement that they (the government ) would maintain the plant. So it was never agreed that OC would maintain the plant just produce the water for water & sewerage to distribute. Now there will yet another problem for as understand the sea bed connected to the Baugher’s Bay plant is owned by OC…hummm, what next…
barbay was built 3 years ago.
where in gods world is barbay ……. u gah be one ah dem country boy lol lmaoooooooo
peter is a total idiot who lives in a world of his own. he cant be helped.
Hog wash!…OC hand over the keys because of the contract situation….
We know what we had or have but we dont know what we will be getting. Mind, I tell allu as pot, stop calling the kettle black.
I totally agree. The grass may be greener on the other side bu you don’t knowt how much water and fertilizer it taking to keep it looking that way, or if the grass is real.
You there bashing OC but you should have been grateful that they, unlike Government, has been thinking about the people in this community. They would rather run the plan at a loss than not provide us with water, even when Government refuse to pay them. You all need to be damn grateful. I hope you all will have no complaints when bywater come – because they are not from here so when plant get in disrepair all they have to do is book a flight and they are gone. Who will you all be bashing then. We need to learn to take care of our own – and stop this damn slave mentality. We will gladly give our children inheritance to the white man but we cannot see each other with nothing. Damn fools. The OC bunch is the kind of people we need running our country – people who care about other people rather than think about what is coming in their pockets.
Yous one to talk about “rather than what is coming in their pockets”…hmm
Are you serious? You telling me these people care more about me than their pockets……get real!
I agree that we need to “take care of our own – and stop this damn slave mentality”. I ain’t nobody’s slave! OC was being operated as if the “house slaves” (major investors) were doing a favour to the field slaves (smaller investors) by letting us invest in THEIR company! I know more than a little about OC ~ and let me tell you, the dividends they paid (or rather DIDN’T pay) is a joke!
You talk about people who care about other people in the same breath as the managment team behind OC ! Man, you must be pulling my leg!
I rue the day I first heard of Ocean Conversion. I have no doubt the smaller investors will get the dirty end of the stick but the big boys will go home when the game is over with full pockets ~ just as they always have!
Bring on the competition. Competition is healthy and is the best thing in the long run for ALL the people of the BVI and not just a select few! Just as with the telecommunications industry, the PEOPLE will benefit from competition! I am sick to death of monopolies and as far as I am concerned, monopolies should never be allowed to exist in the BVI ever again. In fact, I think this should be made into law!
You want my business, then give me your best possible offer, the first time I ask! I’ll then go to the competition and see what they can offer! Whoever makes the best offer wins! That’s business and that’s life. I don’t care who you for, where you from or what colour you is!
You all always on about money – if I not getting some no one else should. You sound like you should know that you can only get back what you put in – so if you invest small don’t expect to get back larger that who invest big! And by the way, which little man going to get from the company that is running the plant now. Fraser there smiling at all of you all under that nasty bit of hair he has on his face. You all don’t even know that this same company leasing property he has an interest in. So you all go on and bash each other – because guess what – just another set of big man getting to go home with all. He has water for sure – do you have any! Think he give a damn!
OC operate that plant for years without proper consideration from Government. You should check out the biwater contract and see if that can ever happen under their contract. You all will be the ones paying through your noses when they bring back the old income tax system to get revenue to pay all the debt this country heading in.
We will be one big commercial – “… in debt up to our eyeballs!”
What a mess!!
I so agree with you Confucius. The government does not owe Ocean Conversion or any other company for that matter a lifetime contract for the supply of water. I just don’t understand those people. It is just pure politricks.
Ocean Conversion had need going long time. Imagine them trying to keep the country hostage.
Fraser you need to get Boland back on the job…..He’s an asset to Water & Sewerage.
Ocean Conversion is just another CCT. Look how long the plant bad. Its only now because them
aint get the contract them trying to play hard ball. Just like CCT its only when them get lil competition
them know they can offer better packages.
Well Fraser let them go…..When one door shut many more will open. I know you aint afraid to
stand up to them set a thieves.
I hope you will be saying that a year from now.
i do hope so to…. cause only your own will stand for what has taken place…. you lose a court case and was to give up the plant but instead for the people sake you stayed and keep making water at NO COST..all when the rest of share holders from the out side say shut it down OC still run and make water for you the people.and this is the payment you give them.. sell out to a white man…..we all will be saying poor bvi soon..and as for the plant there is only one man in the bvi can run it and he already say no to them ….i know that plant and if that plant stays off for to long more problem will occur…. so please my bvi people wake up..money comes and goes …the point is we need water now…..
Fraser you shouldn’t have let it get turned on in the first place. I just pray that when you turn it back on and put people’s life in danger, god help if something happens it will be blood on your hands as well as the hands of the BVI Government. Personally I will not voting VIP again cause all of you all full of B*******.
You sound like an investor….you sound a little disgruntled? What you figured it would stay off and he would grovel at your feet?
What I’d like to know is how and why OC allowed the plant to get so run down that it poses a danger of “blowing up”! For all those years, they ran the plant, didn’t they do preventative maintenance?
I suppose they will claim that because government didn’t pay them what they wanted, they couldn’t “afford” to fix or replace parts that needed replacing. If that’s the case, they sure as hell weren’t handling their budget very well! They made certain that the place was a shambles before turning it over to government!
You must be quite stupid or so blind and deaf that all the information that was given out has passed you by. How do you expect them to repair the plant which is owned by Government, effectively since 2006, without being paid by the Govermnent for the water that was pumped into the system. OC needed money to do the repairs necessary but the minister refused to honour their part of the agreement.
I know there were techinicans there ready to go! Dont mind the noise LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
U NEED GOIN WITH THEM TOO AS MAN U GO TO !!!!!!
