A student of the BVI Technical and Vocational school was one of two youths ordered by Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens to attend the Sandy Lane Centre for treatment and counselling.

The duo appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on February 2 to answer to the charge of unlawful possession of cannabis.

Crown Counsel Herbert Potter told the court that the accused were arrested on January 7 in Huntums Ghut after officers on mobile patrol around 3:30 am that day observed a white vehicle parked close to the road. The police approached the vehicle and noted the duo sitting inside the vehicle.

They were asked why they were sitting there and they all said that they were sleeping. A search was conducted on their persons and later on the vehicle. Officers allegedly found a ziplock bag containing a blue dime bag with vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis in the back rear passenger seat.  The drug allegedly has a street value of $38.

The student told the magistrate that she had begun smoking in November of last year in anticipation of Christmas.

i honestly think people who are addicted to weed are weak.. You cant compare weed with other drugs, it relaxes your body enough to get through the pain but when your high gone your gone looking for more.. its the most expensive, time consuming addiction . all the time and effort you put in looking for supply ducking cops and wasting money is it really worth to fight for just to get a lil tingle in the body? please give me a break over come stress through something else weaklings

We should do a mass experiment. Test everyone in the territory for cannabis use…..Nuff of dem on da police force gon test positive…..just take a stroll behind the moorings to catch dem on there own time..some while on the job. Nothing is wrong with marijuana….but our dictators says so…i guess it must be bad…just like everything else lol. We can poison ourselves with alcohol and cigarettes…. Well i solemly swear… we will be waiting on the day somebody die/overdose on weed…(plain weed NO fanta)

Here’s my question: Is it more important to be spending resources trying to catch people with small amounts of weed (something that can probably be no more eradicated than beer or rum) or should more effort be spent catching criminals who break into cars, houses and boats, and criminals who mug people? Seems to me all we read about in the police blotters is the former, who for the most part don’t bother many, whereas we are all affected by the increased prevalence of thievery and robbery.

Student? Out in car smoking weed @ 3:30 am? How old is this “student”? and where were her parents at that time?…..hmmm! I tell you!!! then we blame the criminals and rapists when they get their hands on our children. ” A sheep that is out astray and not secured and protected by it’s shepherd will eventually fall prey to the wolf”

    LOL. What a defense?

“The student told the magistrate that she had begun smoking in November of last year in anticipation of Christmas.”

I wonder what the magistrate had to say after that revelation? I would have luv to see her face after this was said.

By the way, I had no idea you had to start smoking pot in November to get your high for Christmas, but now I know. That’s a good one.
