Despite the passage of Hurricanes Irma and Maria and the recent decrease in employment opportunities for many residents, the Ministry of Education and Culture is announcing the successful employment of 15 young people through its Youth Employment Services (YES) Programme between October 2017 and February 2018.

The successful job seekers received training in resumé-building, interviewing techniques, and professional etiquette that was facilitated by programme coordinator, Ms Rochelle Lawrence.

They received employment opportunities in various industries and organisations including Parts and Power, CCT, Pet Planet, CCS Trustees, Solid Waste, Latitude 18, National Parks Trust, and McArthur Construction.

Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V Walwyn thanks the companies that have contributed to the overall success of the programme and encourages others to do the same.

“I applaud the companies that have recognised the part that they play in the recovery process and have provided employment opportunities to these young people and I encourage other companies to do the same,” Walwyn said.

“At this juncture in the redevelopment of the territory, the provision of job opportunities plays an integral role in the recovery of the territory.”

Ms Lawrence believes that the continuation and ultimate success of the programme rely on the support of the business community in the territory.

“The Youth Employment Services programme provides young people with the tools needed to become gainfully employed,” Lawrence said.

“As it stands now, we need the support of our business community now more than ever if the programme is to continue to be successful and we will continue to do our part to ensure that we produce quality employees that would serve as assets to the organisations that have partnered with us.”

Young people between the ages of 18-29 are encouraged to register for the Youth Employment Services Programme by contacting the programme coordinator at 1-284- 499-9944 or [email protected].
