2017 crown revealed as competition starts officially

The contest to decide the next Miss British Virgin Islands (BVI) started officially last Saturday night, when contestants participated in the swimwear competition, and persons got an opportunity to see the Mi Amor tiara that the winner will wear on coronation night, August 6.

The six contestants eyeing the crown and various other prizes are Genesis Richards, Ayana Phillip, Tecora Morgan, Helina Hewlett, Lean Francis, and Khephra Sylvester.

Mi Amor Jewellers explained what the crown is made of. “This crown features nine perfectly matched Persian blue, oval cabochon cut, natural and genuine turquoise stones with opaque clarity and no visible impurities.”

“The total weight of the authentic turquoise stones is a whopping 127.35 carats. These flawless gem stones are then set in 14kt white gold and genuine sterling silver, encrusted with Triple A quality cubic zirconia stones. This BVI heirloom has an appraised value of $5,500,” added Mi Amor.

The jeweller further stated that it hopes the Miss BVI 2017 winner “will wear this crown with all that it symbolizes; and that the pride, grace, kindness and dignity of a queen will be worn with it”.

In the meantime, the Miss BVI Pageant Committee has described as successful, the swimwear competition that was held at Peter Island Resort on Saturday night.

The contestants competed in three segments: Beach Body sponsored by Islander Swim Collection, Resort Elegance sponsored by Trefle, and Creative Swimwear designed by each of the contestants. The opening attire was sponsored by UMI Fashions.

“I am super proud of the girls because they were all amazing! In addition to the superb performances by the contestants, the event was successful…” said Damion Grange, co-chair of the Miss BVI Pageant Committee.
