23yo gets suspended sentence for 42 grams of marijuana

Not the marijuana mentioned in the story

A Johnson’s Ghut resident walked away with a suspended sentence this month after being held with 42.2 grams of cannabis back in 2016.

Twenty-three-year-old Nickhoy Phillips was sentenced after pleading guilty to two counts of possession of a cannabis.

He was handed a six-month sentence, which was suspended for one year. That means the offender will only spend six months in prison if he commits another offence in that 12-month period.

What happened

The court heard that the drug offender was found with the drugs on two separate occasions.

He was found with 14.2 grams of the drug on May 13, 2016, and another 28 grams on November 30 that same year.

The offender was implicated while police officers were conducting patrols in the vicinity of the Purcell Estate basketball court on both occasions, the court heard.

In at least one of those incidents, Phillip reportedly attempted to discard the drugs in the nearby bushes upon learning that law enforcers were in the area.

Police, however, retrieved the drugs and later apprehended and charged Phillips.

I believe that all cases where the so call expert could not produce an authincicated certificate should be dismiss. Unfortunately, we might never know who or what cases were already brought before the courts and individuals sent up the Ghut.

I don’t condone illegal drug activities, but, I also don’t think it’s fair for one to suffer based on frivolous findings.

The Analyst should be arrested and sent up the Ghut. Why are they working in the AG’s without visual proof of their Credentials?

    Only in the Virgin Islands!
