Three clients have completed the Safe Haven Transitional Centre’s rehabilitation programme successfully, and are now ‘on their own’ with the centre’s support.

The Government Information Service, in a media release, identified the three clients merely as Lettsome, Todman, and Smith.

It said their accomplishments were celebrated at the centre’s first Completion Ceremony held on August 1.

The Safe Haven Transitional Centre is mandated to provide homeless persons with a safe environment and access to programmes and services that promote self-sufficiency and independence.

Director at the facility, Jacqueline Donovan, said clients must fulfill the rehabilitation requirements in the first phase of the two-phase programme.

She explained that, in phase one, clients are required to be enrolled for a minimum of six months, complete assigned therapeutic activities, attend group sessions and counseling sessions, and secure employment to prove their independence and progress back into society.

After that phase is completed, clients are considered to be ‘on their own’ with the support of the centre, Donovan said.

She added that the centre’s staff later ensures that clients have their necessities with a weekly in-person check-in to ensure they maintain their independence.

The completion ceremony held a few days ago was the first of its kind locally to celebrate the hard work that the clients have put into getting to the current stage.

During the completion ceremony, Representative of the Second District Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull urged the graduates care about themselves.

He encouraged them to maintain the belief that they deserved better, and have taken the necessary steps that helped them transition back into society.

The graduates received certificates, and a tribute in song was rendered by Gabrielle Hoyte.
