CHARTS: 322 people naturalized in five years
The latest figures provided by the state-owned Central Statistics Office show that a total of 322 people became British Virgin Islands citizens over a five-year period ending in December 2014.
Majority of those naturalized were from St Kitts and Nevis (61), followed by the Commonwealth of Dominica, then Guyana.
Most of them were females.
The age group 55-59 years had the largest representation.
Naturalization is a process under the British Nationality Act of 1981, by which persons can become citizens of the Virgin Islands. Naturalized citizens become British Overseas Territories Citizens. As such, they may obtain a Virgin Islands passport, and they are eligible for a United States visa waiver. They can also apply to register as a British citizen of the United Kingdom.
