Local band OMG has composed a song in tribute to the resiliency of residents who were left reeling after one of the worst storms in history, Hurricane Irma, crashed into the British Virgin Islands.

With earnest vocals from lead singer Jevaughn ‘JJ’ Parsons and an arguably fitting backdrop of Caribbean-style music from the band’s capable musicians, ‘BVI Strong’ may very well fulfil its purpose to encourage and entertain.

The four-minute-long single will be released on social media on September 5 – the eve of Hurricane Irma.

“We just wanted to pay tribute in song,” Parsons told BVI News at the weekend.

“It’s about being strong, resilient, and hopeful that tomorrow is a better day. [It is to] give people that glimmer of hope. The song says we are stronger, we are BVI strong. Looking back at the events of a year ago, we are in the process of rebuilding even bigger and better – BVI Strong.”

Adrian Burke of AG Studios produced the soon-to-be-released OMG single.

Meanwhile, the rest of the territory will also be observing the one-year anniversary of the category-five hurricane.

The government has announced plans to mark September 6 as a day of reflection, dance, and singing under the theme ‘Service of Thanksgiving, Reflection and Restoration’.

The time and the venue are not yet known.

Stop jumping on the sympathy bandwagon, and your name is offensive to most people in the BVI (change it or you’ll disappear pretty soon as an irrelevance), you must be desperate to generate some interest in your music but this isn’t the way to do it….please stop

    • The brain says:

Change the band name to what? Big belly man band, fatta Head band? Agreed he name lacks imagination and must reflect their musical aptitude!
