Beach vendor denies selling alcohol illegally

Nigel Prince told Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards today that he is sticking to his plea of not guilty in relation to a case that is more than a year old.

Prince is accused of selling alcohol illegally.

He is scheduled to go to trial on September 27.

The prosecution has alleged that, on February 7 last year, members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force were on foot patrol on Smugglers Cove Beach when they noticed a large number of tourists gathered at a food outlet being operated by Prince.

It is alleged that there was a large quantity of alcohol observed at the outlet.

The court heard that, upon spotting the law enforcers, Prince threw a sheet of fabric over the containers of alcohol, reportedly in a bid to conceal them.

Police then approached him and seized 21 opened and unopened bottles of liquor.

It is alleged that Prince was arrested following checks that revealed he did not have a liquor licence.

He was charged with prohibition of sale of intoxicating liquor without a licence.
