Another young native of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) has stepped up to regional leadership.

Jevaughn Rhymer has been appointed to the highest office in Rotaract Club (District 7020), which include Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Haiti, St Martin, St Maarten, Turks and Caicos Islands, and the US Virgin Islands.

He will serve in the post for a year, officially starting July 1, 2017. He was installed during the District’s conference held on June 3 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Rhymer, who had to undergo an interview session before being selected, was nominated by the Rotaract Club of New Kingston in Jamaica, as well as the Rotaract Club of Tortola which he previously served as president.

“The interview focused generally on my outlook on leadership, my successes in leadership roles, my conflict resolution experience, vision for Rotaract, and the source of my motivation to lead,” Rhymer told BVI News Online.

He further stated that, with the help of others, he intends to make a lasting impression.

The incoming District Rotaract Representative is bent on providing more training opportunities, and increased focus on mentorship.

He further stated that he intends to build a stronger partnership with District 7030, which comprises all other Caribbean countries. This move, Rhymer added, reflects his effort to build “a sense of Caribbean integration and to increase the impact of Rotaract as one Caribbean”.

Elaborating on the type of leadership he will offer, the young leader said: “The theme that I have chosen for the year is Elevate, Impact and Inspire, which is a representation of the organization and the journey that persons take once they become involved.”

“Young adults have an obligation to find a means of growing (elevating). Once this is achieved, the duty becomes having an impact on those around them. And the final obligation is to inspire other young persons to take a similar path. The central aim is therefore to empower Rotaractors to work towards impactful projects and making a difference in their communities,” Rhymer further told BVI News Online.
