Control the children during festival, Parents told

Trefor Grant

Parents planning to attend the emancipation festivities with minors this year are being asked to exercise more vigilance over their children at the events.

“We cannot get involved in actually patrolling whose kids are around the festival village, unfortunately. We can only stress to the parents that the kids are your responsibility, and they are supposed to be vigilant enough to ensure that the kids are where they are supposed to be at a reasonable hour,” said Chairman of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee Trefor Grant.

He went on to say: “We try as much to control what happens in the village. But, at the end of it, parents are responsible for their children and making sure that they are under the adequate supervision.”

The committee chairman noted that children are usually kept inside the festival village until late hours because parents want to enjoy the celebrations, but cannot leave their children at home alone.
