Cops call out parents – Minors steal near midnight
The police have made another appeal for parents to ensure their children are involved in ‘wholesome’ activities; this after an incident in which five minors were arrested in relation to the theft of two motor scooters from the Road Town Police Station close to midnight last Friday.
“Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure that youngsters are engaged in wholesome activities. Premises should be searched regularly for any strange or unexplained items,” the RVIPF said.
As was reported by BVI News Online yesterday, police now confirm that the minors arrested range from 13 to 16 years old. Two of them have been charged with theft, said the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).
It also explained: “Close to midnight [last week Friday], five minors ranging in age from 13 to 16 were arrested for removing two scooters from the Road Town Police Station compound through a small area adjoining the Althea Scatliffe Primary School fencing.”
The RVIPF also noted that, annually, it ‘records an increase in reported theft during the summer months’.
In addition to the incident involving the minors, there was a second scooter theft last week Friday. In the other incident, two gunmen robbed a woman of her scooter at Fat Hog’s Bay, Tortola.
