How taxi-man allegedly had sex with minor

Akeem Sebastian, the taxi operator who is accused of having sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of consent (16 years), has been granted bail.

Magistrate Jack Husbands offered Sebastian $40,000 signed bail yesterday under the condition that he reports to the Road Town Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 6am and 6pm.

He was also told to stay away from the alleged victim who is 14 years old.

Sebastian reportedly had sex with the minor at Long Bay Beach on Tortola this month, then told her to keep quiet about it.

It is said that they did not know each other before the alleged sexual encounter.

Met near club in Cane Garden Bay

Details of the allegations that the prosecution presented yesterday are that the minor’s grandmother recently received word that she (the girl) had been suspended from school.

Upon arriving home later on the date in question, the grandmother reportedly ordered the youngster to go by the gate.

The court heard that the minor went by the gate, but later decided to leave the premises.

She went to Cane Garden Bay.

The taxi operator saw the minor sitting near a club in Cane Garden Bay and called out to her, the court heard.

They reportedly had a conversation after which the taxi operator invited the youngster for a drive.

It is alleged that he brought her to Long Bay Beach where he made certain sexual advances on her.

The court heard that the girl assisted him in removing some of her clothes, and they had sexual intercourse.

Further reports are that the taxi operator later asked for a ’round two’ moment.

They allegedly had sex again.

Reports are that the taxi operator then took the girl to her home, and advised her not to say anything about what had transpired.

The court heard that the youngster received medical attention at Peebles Hospital the following day, and a report was made to the police who launched an investigation.

I did not touch her, but…

Incidentally, Sebastian reportedly visited the police station for an unrelated matter and was pointed out by the minor.

He was approached by the police in relation to the sex-related allegations.

Under caution, the taxi operator reportedly told police that he saw the minor on the beach with two ‘young boys’ who later left her there.

He said she approached him for taxi services, and he asked why she was out that late.

He reportedly claimed that the girl told him that she had sex with the boys that night, and that she was 17 years old.

The taxi operator further told police that he then brought her home. He said he never molested, touched, or had sex with the minor.

Under caution, however, the taxi operator reportedly added: “I sorry for what I done, but that’s all I got to say.”

He is being represented by former magistrate Charmaine Rosan-Bunbury, and will return to court on April 10.
