Tyrone George has been charged in relation to a third case of burglary.

The prosecution claimed that, in the latest incident that unfolded at Kingston Hill on Tortola in 2012, the accused left his used socks at the crime scene.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said George admitted to the crime.

But he is yet to enter a plea.

George is scheduled to return to the Magistrate’s Court in the coming weeks when his matter will be put for ‘paper committal’.

That effectively means George’s case will be presented in writing to Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards, who will then decide whether there is enough evidence to bring the accused burglar before the High Court.

It is alleged that George burglarised a residence at Kingston Hill when the owners were off island.

The caretaker of the property first visited and secured it on the morning of September 10, 2012.

She then left the residence.

When she returned later on the date in question, she discovered that a glass window had been broken and the kitchen oven had been ignited.

A water bottle was also found on the kitchen counter.

Further checks revealed that the ‘entire home had been ransacked’ and a Blackberry cellular phone also stolen.

A pair of dirty socks was found on the bathroom floor.

The burglary was reported to the police who swabbed the water bottle and socks for DNA.

Police eventually caught up with George in May 2016 while he was in custody for another offence.

When cautioned in relation to the 2012 burglary, George allegedly told the police: “I don’t know about no burglary.

What ayo trying to pin on me?”

The law enforcers then took DNA samples from George and tested it against the DNA lifted form the water bottle and dirty socks. The court heard that the two samples were identical.

Police also claimed that, after hearing about the DNA results during a subsequent interview, George confessed to the crime.

“Yes I did it. I was going through some hard times. I apologize,” he reportedly said.

He subsequently was charged.

Meanwhile, in relation to the other two cases of burglary in which he is implicated, George had pleaded guilty in only one case. He was sentenced.
