Flood water knocks out wall -School badly affected

President of the Lion’s Club of Tortola Carvin Malone has made a public appeal for assistance in cleansing the flood-ravaged Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) in Road Town, Tortola.

According to him, flood waters on Monday knocked out a section of the perimeter wall at the institution, and made its way onto the school compound, dumping mud and murky water into classrooms as well as damaging some building.

There has been no report from the Minister of Education Myron Walwyn about the scale of the damage to schools.

But Malone said the plan of action is to clear the mouth of a ghut near the school, remove the mud and debris, and clean all class rooms and administration buildings.

He said the following are needed: “Excavator, bobcat, pressure washer, three-yard truck, 20-yard truck, water-boots, gloves, and humans with strong arms.”

Here are some of the photos Malone has presented to show the extent of the problem facing the territory’s largest public school:

Definitely not a million dollar wall. That there so is $300,000. Pure cheap blocks I see no solid concrete that they a recipe for disaster.

I think that must be what every single person reading this article is thinking. That is not even a $300,000 wall. The contractor should be shamed into coming back and rebuilding it properly.

Well, the education minister who ordered it is the one who should be shamed for accepting such substandard work. A field visit during its construction would have revealed its shoddy construction, and rip-off price.

Not the million dollar wall! I can’t believe it. This million wall is starting to become (if it isn’t already)one of the worst decision by a politician ever in terms of money use.

Yes where the Minister and the funds allocated to deal with such a disaster. Where is he???? The principal, teachers and students should not be burdened to clean this mess from their pockets or their backs/sweat.

The new wall did not come down. It was the older wall that was there before. The two sections were joined. Get your facts straight!

The people commenting on the integrity of the wall have never even mixed some cement in their lives. A perimeter wall does not need to be cast from solid concrete. The wall was never designed to be a retaining wall (which is more expensive)

Do not under estimate the powers of water. It could have been a $10.00 wall water would have still done what it did. Again, God do not like ugly he have a way of reveling everything.

All the dirtiness of the NDP being exposed. Maybe now the high school will get some attention a proper cleaning..paint job all around and that includes the classrooms..flushing toilets..school supplies for the school..and the list goes on. Put $ into your schools..not your pockets. Children learn in a pleasant and HEALTHY environment.
