Former hospital cashier pleads guilty to beating disgruntled customer

Peebles Hospital

More than two years after assaulting a female customer at Peebles Hospital, a former cashier at the facility, Kindel Vanterpool, has pleaded guilty.

Vanterpool who had pleaded not guilty back in June 2017 seemingly had a change of heart when he appeared before Magistrate Shawn Innocent on Tuesday.

He is now scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, January 11.

What the court heard happened

The court heard that on November 4, 2016, a woman was visiting Peebles Hospital to get medication from the pharmacy. However, after waiting for a period of time, the female reportedly quizzed, insulted, and berated Vanterpool while complaining about the lengthy wait.

The court heard that Vanterpool left his station and had a heated exchange with the woman.

Their verbal altercation escalated and Vanterpool punched the female about her face and shoulders, the court heard.

It is reported that onlookers had to physically restrain Vanterpool and end the assault.

The female subsequently had to seek medical attention. The matter was then reported to the police and Vanterpool was arrested, charged, and placed on $45,000 bail.

Attorney Stephen Daniels represents the offender.
