After searching a vessel they had spotted near the Police Marine Base on Tortola, law enforcers this month nabbed five persons and charged four with illegal entry.

Three of those charged are from the Dominican Republic, and the other is from Venezuela.

A 23-year-old BVIslander from Pasea Estate, who was taken into custody on suspicion of human smuggling, has been released without charge, said Information Officer at the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Diane Drayton.

She further told BVI News Online that investigations are ongoing.

“While officers were on patrol, they saw a boat that looked suspicious. They stopped them (occupants of the boat), and questioned them close to the Police Marine Base,” added Drayton.
