The Ministry of Communication and Works said it is now using a cheaper means of getting capital projects done quicker throughout the territory.

According to permanent secretary in the ministry, Anthony McMaster, private/public partnerships are now the norm.

He stated that, in the past, most of the projects were done only by private companies.

“All the projects that we try to execute now, we try to execute jointly between Government and the private sector. That is a way how we sorta drive efficiency, keep the cost down, and we will be able to get more projects done as opposed to just doing straight private sector.”

“So we use the government expertise. For example, we have engineers and project managers [in Government]. So we use the government side to capture that, and then what we do is we use the private sector labour and equipment to capture the other side. So we basically do joint ventures to ensure that everybody benefits and the cost to the territory is sorta reduced so we can actually get more projects done,” McMaster further told BVI News Online.
