Residents are being told to brace for the possibility of unstable weather conditions on Monday (September 3) as yet another tropical wave moves past the of the British Virgin Islands.

According to the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services, there is a “high chance” of showers and a “moderate chance” of thunderstorms in for the territory.

Accumulated rainfall could possibly exceed 10mm, the Antiguan meteorological office said through a media release from the Department of Disaster Management (DDM).

“Residents are reminded that the territory is very saturated and additional rainfall can create ponding of road and make areas with unstable soil and hillsides with lose rocks a bit more hazardous. Caution should be exercised when passing such areas,” the DDM said.

“Visibility can be obstructed during squalls or heavy downpours. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution while driving on land and mariners are encouraged to exercise caution sailing at sea,” it added.

This latest weather report comes days after a previous tropical wave dumped inches of rainfall and caused flash floods in various sections of the territory.
