Two inmates at Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsum Ghut have been arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to supply.
One of the inmates has been identified as Deron Walters, a man who is already serving a 22-month prison sentence, and who has a $26,000 fine for a similar offence.
The second inmate accused is attempted-murderer, Nickail Chambers.
Allegations of this recent drug charge are not known. But police said they were arrested on March 29.
Both were already incarcerated at the time of their arrest.
They are expected to make an appearance in the Magistrate’s Court.
Walters was only sentenced four months ago for possession of 706 grams of marijuana, as well as possession with intent to supply to another.
The 30-year-old Fat Hogs Bay resident also has other cases pending before the court.
He is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and being armed with an offensive weapon in those matters.
Walters also has cocaine-related charges. Police allegedly discovered the illegal substance when they searched his vehicle in the Baughers Bay area of Tortola a year ago.
According to police, he is charged with unlawful possession of cocaine, unlawful possession of cocaine with intent to supply, unlawful possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest.
Chambers has also been described as having an extremely poor rap sheet.
He is accused of trying to murder his childhood friend Cory Prince. He allegedly tried to gun down Prince nearly a year ago.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Chambers has been before the court for other offences such as burglary, rape, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a controlled drug, common assault, and handling stolen goods.
