Jack sentenced for assaulting police

A man who punched a police officer and sprinted out of the East End Police Station to avoid being arrested for a crime has been fined $2,800.

Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste DaBreo on Friday fined Everett Jack who pleaded guilty to assault on police, disorderly conduct in a police station, affray, and common assault.

Jack was ordered to pay $800 each for common assault and affray, $1,000 for assault on police, and $200 for being disorderly in a police station.

He will spend a total of six months and four days at Her Majesty’s Prison if he does not pay the monies.

Jack racked up the charges during two separate incidents.

In one incident, reports are that Jack visited Big Man’s Jerk Centre in Old Plantation and ordered food on November 20, 2015.

The male complainant in the case told the cook not to serve Jack because he (Jack) was infamous for not paying.

Jack then attacked the complainant who sustained injuries, including bruises and swelling to the right side of the face.

The matter was reported to the East End Police.

When cautioned at the police station, Jack reportedly replied: “The man disrespected me.”

He then ran away to avoid being jailed.

Reports are that police tried to block the exit to the station, but Jack managed to get outside. The court heard that he punched a cop before he escaped.

Police accosted Jack in the Long Look area some time later.

Bar brawl

In the other incident that happened at a bar in Fat Hog’s Bay on September 24 last year, Jack reportedly got into a fight with the proprietor who he accused of taking his money but not serving him the beers he had ordered.

The bar owner was injured after Jack struck him in the head, the court heard.

During a police interview, Jack claimed that he paid the bar owner $20 for beers he didn’t get. As such, he demanded his money back.

Jack reportedly told police that the bar owner sustained the head injury after he fell down a flight of stairs. Jack was subsequently charged with affray.
