A number overseas linesmen contracted to help with electricity restoration in the territory staged a relatively short and peaceful protest outside the BVI Electricity Corporation’s (BVIEC) office in Long Bush this morning.
The linesmen who are said to be Jamaican workers were protesting late payments.
It is said that the workers have been waiting to get paid since last Friday.
A senior worker affiliated with the BVIEC said payments were late because of technical banking issues.
He told BVI News that the issue is now resolved.
In the meantime, Deputy Chairman of the BVIEC Henry Creque said in an invited comment: “The BVIEC has a contract with the Jamaican linesmen and we are working according to the contract and trying to facilitate them as best as possible in the best interest of everyone concerned.”
