Local coach to be laid to rest on Saturday
Local track and field coach Xavier ‘Dag’ Samuels will be laid to rest this Saturday, October 21 at the Sea Cow’s Bay Methodist Church.
Before family, friends, and supporters say final goodbyes to the deceased coach, a candlelight vigil will be held in his honour.
The vigil is scheduled to take place 6pm tomorrow at the A.O. Shirley Recreational Grounds in Road Town.
Coach Samuels and three others were killed by the monstrous category 5 hurricane, Irma, which devastated the British Virgin Islands on September 6.
Up to the time of his death, Samuels was the coach of world-leading 400m hurdler, Kyron McMaster.
Coach Samuels was the man guiding McMaster when the athlete ran 47.80 seconds in the 400m hurdles five months ago. The athlete still remains the fastest 400m hurdler in the world this year.
McMaster, in the meantime, is now signed with a new coach, Lennox Graham from Jamaica.
