Man accused of assault in nightclub bathroom

magistrate's court

Jordan Jack, a man accused of assaulting a woman in the bathroom of a nightclub, was been granted $20,000 bail.

During his appearance in the Magistrate’s Court, the Purcell Estate resident pleaded not guilty to common assault.

Allegations are that, on August 16 last year, the complainant was at Deja Vu nightclub – formerly known as Deuces –drinking with Jack.

She went to the restroom at the venue and the accused man allegedly followed her.

It is further alleged that he forcefully pushed her into the male restroom and held her by the neck.

Some time later, a friend went in search of the complainant. During her search, she saw the accused man open the door and leave the area.

The friend then met the complainant in the bathroom in what the prosecution described as a ‘hysterical state’.

A report was made to the police and Jack was taken into custody.

In a police interview, the accused reportedly explained that he met the complainant at a different establishment earlier on the day in question.

He said he later went to the nightclub and saw her there. They danced and drank together.

The accused reportedly claimed that the complainant suggested that they go to the bathroom.

He told the police further that, while in the bathroom, the woman took a ‘white package’ from her bag.

He allegedly reported that he ‘chucked her’ and told her that he does not use drugs.

The accused will return to court on April 26 for trial.
