Man fondles woman through window, court hears

Magistrate’s Court at John’s Hole, Tortola

A man accused of groping a woman through her bedroom window was hauled before the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, June 7.

Twenty-nine-year-old Keithroy Joseph pleaded not guilty to indecent assault.

Allegations are that, some time last month, the complainant was in bed with her boyfriend when she felt a touch along her thighs.

She realized that she was being touched by a hand that had been forced through her bedroom window from outside her East End house.

The woman raised an alarm.

The court heard that she identified Joseph – whom she knew prior to the incident – as the person who was standing by the bedroom window.

Joseph allegedly ran away with a giggle.

The matter was reported to the police.

The court further heard that, when accosted, the accused said he recalls being at the woman’s home, but he doesn’t remember the details of what happened because he was drunk at the time.

He subsequently was charged.

ANOTHER CASE

Joseph was also before the Magistrate’s Court yesterday in relation to another case in which he drove a scooter away from an East End residence.

He entered a guilty plea for taking a conveyance without lawful authority.

The prosecution reported that the complainant parked his motor scooter on his East End property last month and left it there.

Joseph visited the property and reportedly made off with the motorcycle.

The court heard that the complainant later observed Joseph on the scooter and alerted the police.

Law enforcers then apprehended Joseph.

In court, Joseph admitted to Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards that he took away the scooter. He however said he thought the scooter belonged to a friend who police had arrested.

MEDICATION

The court, in the meantime, heard that Joseph is a patient of Dr June Samuels who works with the Community Mental Health Centre.

Senior Magistrate Richards, who ordered that Joseph be remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison, noted that the offender will be able to continue receiving medication until he returns to court.

Joseph agreed.

He is scheduled to return to court on July 13.
