Man guilty of assaulting three cops

Denzil Wheatley, who is already serving an eight-year prison term, was today convicted in relation to another offence.

Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste DaBreo found the offender guilty of three counts of assault with intent to prevent lawful apprehension.

Reports were that on December 30, 2011 police were carrying out an investigation in relation to a series of burglaries that happened at the time.

Three law enforcers reportedly approached Wheatley and asked him to accompany them to the police station for questioning.

It is reported that Wheatley told the law enforcers that they were ‘harassing’ him, and that they should leave him alone.

Police then told Wheatley that he was being arrested on suspicion of burglary.

It is said that he aggressively inquired which of the three law enforcers could put handcuffs on him.

When one of the officers tried to handcuff Wheatley, a struggle ensued.

The other cops tried to help their colleague.

But Wheatley reportedly shoved one of the officers, kicked one in the chest, and also hit another in the chest area.

He was eventually subdued, arrested, and charged.

He is scheduled to return to court on September 19 for sentencing.

Meanwhile, Wheatley along with two others, were sentenced in 2015 to eight years at Her Majesty’s Prison for aggravated burglary.
