A businessman identified as Franklyn Fahie was shot in the Long Look area of Tortola last night during a robbery.

Highly placed sources said he was pronounced dead at Peebles Hospital.

Details about the incident that unfolded at a bar owned by the victim are still sketchy.

A media release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) mainly confirmed information BVI News Online earlier reported.

It said: “Police are conducting investigations into a shooting which occurred during a robbery at Fahie Boy Bar in Long Look late last night, January 6. During the robbery, one man was shot and hospitalised. This man has since died.”

“The Coroner’s Office has been informed and a Family Liaison Officer has been assigned. The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is asking [persons with] information about this matter to contact the Special Investigations Unit at 368-5682. Persons can also contact the Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or report the information requested anonymously to Crimestoppers through its Miami-based hotline number 800-TIPS (8477),” added the RVIPF.

There have been a number of armed robberies in the Vanterpool Estate/Long Look area and elsewhere on Tortola over the past several months.

The shooting of Fahie is the first murder being reported since the start of the year.

Four murders were reported last year. The victims are Nickera Smith, Devern ‘Snoopy’ Stanley, Merlin Caesar, and Estavan Jefferson.
