Police said a search is ongoing for the man who went missing after he allegedly jumped from a boat that flipped in British Virgin Islands waters yesterday, July 11.

Residents have identified the missing man as Deshaun ‘Bongo’ Bryan.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), in a media release this afternoon, did not release the man’s identity.

But it confirmed much of the information that BVI News Online reported yesterday.

The RVIPF confirmed that two men were aboard the ill-fated vessel, but one was rescued. The boat was also found.

“Officers of the RVIPF Marine Branch and Virgin Islands Search and Rescue resumed their search early this morning (July 12) for one boater who is missing following a boating incident in the Sir Francis Drake Channel. The search began late yesterday afternoon and ended late last night for the missing boater,” the RVIPF said.

It added: “The missing boater was one of two men onboard a 24” speedboat. Both occupants allegedly jumped into the sea when the boat overturned yesterday afternoon. One occupant who was rescued from the sea was treated for minor injuries and discharged from hospital. Cause of the mishap is still being investigated.”

The RVIPF further stated that its investigations are ongoing.
