Motorist faces several charges in Supa Cop hit

A Spanish-speaking man was hauled before the Magistrate’s Court this week on several traffic-related charges.

Dominican Republic native Julio Adams has been charged with – among other things – fraudulently using a licence sticker. He pleaded not guilty to that charge.

He is also charged with three counts of driving without due care and attention, but pleaded guilty to only one count.

The accused, in the meantime, pleaded guilty to one of three counts of driving an unlicensed vehicle.

He is further charged with 13 counts of prohibition of tint. He pleaded guilty to only two counts.

Why the charges were laid

The court heard that well-known policeman Glenville ‘Supa Cop’ Callwood charged the 33-year-old accused with the offences over three days last year – November 9, December 10, and December 21.

It is alleged that, prior to those dates, the police officer noticed that Adams’ vehicle licence had expired, and so he warned him against using the said vehicle.

Officer Callwood reportedly saw the accused operating the vehicle in November and charged him for the window tint violations, and for driving the unlicensed vehicle. Further allegations are that the accused was also driving carelessly.

The court heard that Officer Callwood saw the accused allegedly driving the vehicle again on December 10, and laid charges similar to those that were already laid in November.

Further allegations are that, on December 21, the police officer saw the motorist driving the said vehicle. He had a licence sticker that did not belong to that vehicle, the court heard. He was again charged.

When the accused appeared before Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste DaBreo this week, he was granted $20,000 signed bail.

He is scheduled to return to court on March 29.
