Multiple weather systems lurking in Atlantic

More weather systems have developed and are now lurking in the Atlantic, the National Hurricane Center in the United States has advised.

One of those systems is the Category 3 Hurricane Florence, which forecasters say is no threat to the BVI.

But the hurricane centre has also identified a tropical disturbance moving at 10 miles per hour in the eastern Atlantic.

The disturbance is moving mostly west and west-northwest and has a 90 percent chance of developing in five days.

“It has become better organised over the last 24 hours. Forecasters continue to think that if it did reach the eastern Caribbean, it would not do so until late next week,” the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) said Wednesday morning.

The DDM said another tropical is forecast to develop in the eastern Atlantic.

“Residents are encouraged to pay close attention to the Atlantic and are encouraged to continue with preparations as we move further into the peak of the season … Now is a good time to review family emergency plans to ensure who you have the necessities,” the DDM said.
