There is an adage that ‘lightning doesn’t strike in the same place twice’.

That may not be totally true for a British Virgin Islands family that has been plunged into uncertainty for a second time in roughly one year.

The two incidents – though a year apart – happened within the same period (June/July)

On June 6 last year, 28-year-old Free Bottom resident Devern ‘Snoopy’ Stanley was reported missing. At the end of July last year, he was found murdered.

Now, on July 11 this year, his younger half-brother Deshaun ‘Bongo’ Bryan has disappeared without a trace. He and another man were at sea yesterday when their boat reportedly flipped.

The other man was rescued.

According to police, allegations are that ‘Bongo’ and the other boater jumped from the vessel when it over-turned in Sir Francis Drake Channel.

Bongo, who disappeared yesterday, has a daughter.

His last public post on social networking site Facebook is a photograph of his elder brother who was murdered a year ago.

Bongo is the latest member of a group of close friends and relatives to have died tragically or disappeared in recent times.

His name was being bandied about following a major happening in Road Town recently.
