Names of other potential NDP election recruits surface

Following recent reports of names of potential political newcomers who the National Democratic Party (NDP) may have recruited to contest the upcoming General Election, the names of another set of possible NDP recruits have surfaced.

In an internal meeting held last evening, party officials reportedly confirmed well-known Rotarian Elvis ‘Juggy’ Harrigan, singer/song writer Aaron Parillon, and Hipolito Penn to run under the NDP banner.

Harrigan will contest the Fifth District seat, Parillon will vie for the Third District seat, and Penn will take on the Seventh, BVI News understands.

It is also understood that party officials confirmed high school principal Sandy Underhill, Ports Authority board chairman Trefor Grant, and BVI Electricity Corporation boss Henry Creque as three of the four Territorial At-Large candidates the NDP will present for the elections.

It is not clear whether Speaker of the House of Assembly, Ingrid Moses-Scatliffe, has been placed on the party’s ticket for election — something she, herself, declined to confirm or deny when reports of her potential NDP candidacy surfaced some two months ago. Her reported candidacy stirred up major controversy at the time.

Still tightlipped

Party Chairman Myron Walwyn is continuing to keep his political playing cards close to his chest and opted to reveal nothing when BVI News reached out to him for comment last evening.

What is known, however, is that Walwyn, Marlon Penn, and representatives for Sixth and Ninth districts — Alvera Maduro-Caines and Dr Hubert O’Neal, respectively — will be seeking re-election as NDP candidates.

The NDP is one of four political organsations that is expected to present candidates to contest the next General Election, which must happen by April 16, 2019.

The other three parties are the Julian Fraser-led Progressives United, the Ronnie Skelton-led Progressive Virgin Islands Movement, and the Andrew Fahie-led VIP. The VIP is the only party to have officially announced most of its election caandidates, so far..

Will PRINCIPAL and PORT CHAIRMAN tender their resignations today? This also confirms that the ACTION MAN is running in the 4th again. The question is, will he show up to the house on time or attend at all if he wins and his party loses?

Probably more than you know. I am guessing that there is more than a little bit of “disinformation” going on in relation to these NDP leaks of potential candidates.

I suspect the real list of candidates will look a bit different when it is finally announced.

If — wins hands down, that means that the system is really flawed, because if someone can break all the laws and be so corrupt and still get voted in, then the UK needs to step in because we are not politically mature enough to handle our own affairs. It is that bad. Look at Road Town, our business district, it is filthy, corruption reeks. —– must go now.

What I find interesting is that Dr. Smith has stepped down in retirement from this party and his step-son is running as an at-large candidate?

It’s great to see that the Vanterpool/Creque/Smith families still have a viable interest in the survivability of this party.

What’s even more interesting is that it appears that the good docter from the seventh is being replaced.

How come we’ve not heard of a resignation or a retirement letter from this representative?

So much is happening at the eleventh hour which we all must pay keen attention to, to avoid being bamboozled and tricked by skillfully and cleverly political “mercenaries”!

You bloggers amaze me. How many of you would actually make the move to serve your country at this level? You have persons that although you may not like personally you try to discount them with childish rants. And we wonder why the BVI is the way it is. You sit in your comfortable little spaces to blog and spill hate yet do absolutely nothing to better your country or communities. The BVI should be ashamed of itself with the level of blogging that takes place. It is full of educated people who clearly don’t blog.

Obviously the bloggers have their opinions and as such they have all the right to expressed themselves whether you like it or not. When you said that educated people don’t blog are you suggesting that the bloggers are uneducated and if so I would also assume that you have also fallen in the category of the uneducated since you had time and energy to block and rant your ignorant A$$ trying to belittled persons who are using their constitutional rights to freedom of expression.

The symbol of the NDP is a family with round head people. Don’t take my word for it, go look at it for yourself. This election is crucial. Look at everything and make an informed decision. For years we have been asking for changes to the electoral system, the voters registration card with photo, the picture of the district and at large candidates on the ballot. Instead I heard the school children saying we are getting voting machines from St. Thomas. People stand up and demand better.

Did KPMG report on TPP (Tortola Pier Park) deliver a no fault finding and a clean bill of health for the MCW on the TPP? Is the MCW standing for reelection and did KPMG findings a deciding factor? What grade should we give to road conditions? A, b, C, D or F? Has the MCW earned reelection?

I’m gathering that the people do not want seasoned nor new representatives; too young nor too old. I also detect that they do not want them to be tied to well-off (black, yellow, red or white) families with a long history in the BVI. They don’t want educated nor uneducated. They don’t want them to have any friends but they should be friendly to everyone. They don’t want them to fraternize with members of opposing parties but they want them to form a consensus on plans of action for the territory.

What they want are representatives suffering from multiple personality disorder. Pure insanity.
