Nearly a dozen people to face court for marijuana

A total of 10 persons will face the Magistrate’s Court in the coming weeks to answer to different cases involving alleged possession of a controlled drug – predominantly marijuana.

The charges, which were laid mainly on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, have been published in the weekly Arrest Blotter by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

Marley Donovan and Cassini Skelton

According to the RVIPF, 27-year-old Carrot Bay resident Marley Donovan and 22 year-old resident of West End Cassini Skelton were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled drug on New Year’s Eve – December 31, 2016.

They were granted bail in the sum of $10,000 with one surety to appear before the Magistrate’s Court at John’s Hole on February 24.

It is alleged that law enforcers caught both men with marijuana on a boat at sea.

Minor

The RVIPF also said a male minor – of no fixed place of abode – was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis on New Year’s Eve.

He is a 16-year-old native of the British Virgin Islands.

Khalil Winter

Police arrested and charged 18-year-old Khalil Winter, a native of the British Virgin Islands residing at Major Bay in East End, with unlawful possession of a controlled drug.

He was allegedly caught with marijuana on New Year’s Eve.

Winter is on police bail, and is yet to make his first court appearance.

Akinde Chalwell

Meanwhile, Akinde Chalwell, 19, was arrested and charged also on New Year’s Eve.

He is a resident of Major Bay, East End.

Chalwell is on bail for the marijuana offence.

James Leonard Jr

The RVIPF, in the meantime, stated that 19-year-old native of the British Virgin Islands James Leonard Jr has been arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.

He is of no fixed place of abode, added the RVIPF, which indicated that the youngster was arrested and charged on New Year’s Eve.

Garvin Woods

The RVIPF said Garvin Woods, a 50-year-old resident of Free Bottom on Tortola, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled drug on December 23.

It is alleged that the native of St Vincent was held with marijuana on DeCastro Street in Road Town.

Carl Deon Wheatley

Police further said they arrested and charged Carl Deon Wheatley, a 29-year-old resident of East End on Tortola, with unlawful possession of a controlled drug.

That charge was laid on Christmas Day – December 25.

Brian Eugene Gaston

Taxi driver Brian Eugene Gaston, a 43 year-old resident of Josiah’s Bay on Tortola, has been arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled drug.

He was arrested and charged on Christmas Day.

The RVIPF did not identify the drug involved.

Keshawn Baronville

Police also said they arrested and charged Keshawn Baronville, a 22-year-old resident of Fat Hogs Bay on Tortola, with unlawful possession of marijuana.

He was arrested and charged on Christmas Eve – December 24.
