One of the territory’s tourism hotspots, Norman Island, has reopened.

The island’s acclaimed restaurant, Pirates Bight, reopened at the weekend after being smashed into by the category 5 forces of hurricanes Irma and Maria.

“Both restaurants — the big one and the small one — was destroyed and we spent the time rebuilding. We are talking about structural damages meaning both roofs, kitchen, the entire bar at Pirates Bight, and the gift shop windows. But we’ve recovered the smaller restaurant and we’ve reopened… the smaller one is technically also Pirates Bight,” operators at Norman Island said.

They told BVI News that visitors have already expressed an interest in returning.

“We are working diligently to get the bigger restaurant open and we are all excited. We’ve been getting a lot of calls; people want to do events. A lot of our contacts from the States and the UK have been contacting us asking when, when, when they can come down.”

Norman Island operators also told BVI News that the reopening helps to push local tourism back in a positive direction.

The island reopened ahead of the official return of cruise ships to the BVI this week.

The ships will arrive tomorrow and on Thursday, December 7.

Government has already begun works to get beaches ready for the arrivals.
